Culinary Experiments : A soothing cool beverage - Masala Chaas

MASALA CHAAS

Unpredictable weather is leaving us at the mercy of some chilled soothing drinks like fruit juices, the classic lime water, slushes and many others. πŸ§ƒπŸ₯€
Staying hydrated is the key - and this Masala Chaas should be one of the must try recipes this summer. 

Also known as buttermilk, this churned yoghurt based drink is made differently across the country. The addition of the spices and herbs majorly act as coolants for the body, aids in digestion and help in rehydration.

The drink can be had post a hearty meal, or if you have managed to torture yourself in the sun for running  some errands.😎😝


INGREDIENTS:

  • Yoghurt - 1/2 l
  • Half inch of chopped ginger
  • 2 tsp jeera seeds
  • 2 tsp coriander seeds
  • Few black peppercorn
  • 1 tsp of dry pudina powder
  • 1/2 tsp of black salt
  • 1/2 tsp of chaat masala
  • Pinch of red chili powder
  • Pinch of hing
  • Salt per taste
  • Water

RECIPE WITH STEP BY STEP PICTURES:

Dry roast 2 tsp jeera seeds, 2 tsp coriander seed and some black peppercorn.Once it has cooled down ,use a grinder/mortal pestle to make a coarse or fine powder as desired. 

Take a big patila/container. In it add 1/2 litre of curd - you could use home made or purchase it from the grocery store. Add water as required. 

Use a whisk/hand blender to churn it for few minutes. You will observe the froth forming atop after a minute or so.
Now add the dry spices - 3 tsp of the roasted masala, 1 tsp of dry pudina powder, 1/2 tsp of black salt, 1/2 tsp of chaat masala, pinch of red chili powder, pinch of hing, chopped ginger and salt per taste. The ratio can be adjusted per your taste,

Churn it again. 

For instant consumption, add ice-cubes, use chilled yoghurt and water. 

You can refrigerate it for consumption later, maximum upto 2 days.

Sprinkle some of the roasted powder, chili powder and mint leaves - serve it chilled.
