Wanderlust Tales : Kottilingam, Bangalore

Kottilingeswara Temple is highly renowned in and around Bangalore for having more than 90 lac lingas.
The intent is to have about 10 million shiv lingas established here.

The drive to Kottilingam takes approximately two and half hours - about 120-150 km away from Bangalore(KanakPura Road) and about 6-7 km from the Kolar district.
Google maps are your perfect companion and added to it, you also have the passer by's whose help you can seek.

There are plentiful of petrol pumps and eatery joints - so that aspect is totally taken care of. The roads are excellent to drive through - scenic beauty, plush greenery - what more can you ask for! Play your favorite music and enjoy your drive.
Try to start early - this will ensure you reach the temple on time and avoid the rush.

The temple premises have a huge parking lot(not chargeable), but be sure to leave your footwear in your own vehicle.

There are these numerous typical stalls set up selling plentiful of items outside the temple.

The attraction costs Rs.50/- per head for entry and camera cost Rs.100/-. Must say a bit too pricey for a temple entry.
And moreover commercializing a place of worship - doesn't click for me.
As you enter you would see copious lingas surrounding the premise. It houses the tallest LINGA in Asia apparently at about 108 ft. They also boast of a huge Nandi structure.

There are two main temples inside the premise - and it takes approximately about an hour to pay a visit to both. There is an immense rush for darshan during the weekends.
At the temple, they do explain a brief history of its inception but it is in Kannada which is of no use to the Hindi bhasi. πŸ˜”But anyhow at least someone gets educated about the place.

If one wants to donate lingas - they can do so, but probably they would have to follow some procedure for it.

To me, the sanctity of the place was being disturbed with the pronounced center of attention being the abundant lingas. Everyone was busy taking pictures - so did I, wouldn't deny it. But you know, it was kind of odd!

The place is well maintained - but since you have to leave your footwear outside, to see all the lingas becomes an arduous task - barefoot! Burns on the concrete... πŸ˜’

They have provided places to sit - so you can relax and find peace for yourself!

Please see few pictures from the trip - albeit a photographer's delight:

Cheers to life!!
