Wanderlust Tales : Amritsar Diaries - Amrit Ke Sarovar Main, Punjab

DAY 1

AMRITSAR
Amritsar is a small beautiful city in the north western parts of the country sharing a close border with that of Pakistan.

It is world famous for the temple of Gold - Golden Temple. 😊
As they say Amritsar is a confluence of tradition, history and food. It was here that many significant historical events had been triggered. The spirits of patriotism along with deep rooted heritage can be witnessed here. The small city has indeed a plethora of things in its kitty. 😊

Amritsar literally translates to a pool of amrit i.e nectar. It has a huge significance to the Sikh community of the country.

HOW TO GET HERE:
Amritsar is well connected from most parts of the country.  There are direct flights running from Jammu to Amritsar.  Also there are trains which bring you directly to Amritsar.

And anyone who goes to Jammu&Kashmir, does not leave without a visit to the city of the Golden Temple - Amritsar.

COMMUTING:
Ola saves your day and most of our rides in the city were booked through OLA. There are surprisingly rickshaw pullers plying on the road - which can be commonly seen in the Northern Parts of the country.

I don't think saw autos plying here, but open multi seater carriers which would ply for short distances.

AMRITSAR DIARIES:
Golden Temple

Hopping around the city:
PLACES TO SEE:
  • Golden Temple
  • Jallianwala Bagh
  • Akal Takht
  • Durgiana Temple
  • Town Hall
  • Hall Bazaar
  • Wagah Border
  • Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum
  • Partition Museum
  • Ram Tirath
We were here for about 2 days roughly - but were not able to cover all the tourist spots. We could barely cover the major ones - but never the less, that's a feat too. 😊
Humans as we are - never content ain't it?! πŸ˜‰

What's amazing that in and around the Golden Temple itself, you can explore a lot of places - everything is in the vicinity of the temple.

Amritsar is now one of the growing cities of the country with remarkable growth in agriculture, trade and tourism of course.

The flourishing agriculture can be seen in the outskirts of the city - long endless green farms. We also saw plentiful of mustard farms on our way - the farms were immersed in the beauty of yellow. 😍

Cheers to life!!
