Food anatomization : Mainland China, Amanora Mall - Pune

Visited Mainland China in Amanora after a long interlude.

We decided to hit this place for our team lunch and we choose to try our hands on the buffet.

Mainland China is located next to Barbeque Nation, evidently noticeable.
The place is spacious, accommodates about 7-8 tables and 2 long tables for the larger groups. They have segregated the seating arrangement with beautifully architecture-ed wooden separators - it ensures privacy of the guests as well.
The ambiance of the place was such that it lightened the mood, and is dimly lighted.
Right at the entrance, there are three tall bronze statues - they were kind of intimidating yet added to the vigor of the place. Each statue had a specific hand gesture - but it was hard for me understand the intent altogether.
The bar is located right next to the door - seemed a neat and cleanly organized one.
There were quite a number of Buddha paintings - gorgeous.
The walls had a beautiful texture and the fancy set of 8 light fixtures over each of the tables were eye catchy.

After settling down, we headed straight for the appetizer - EIGHT TREASURE CHICKEN SOUP, thick chicken soup with a combination of 8 nutritious ingredients added to it. Well I might have not been able to tell about the 8 nutritious ingredients - but the soup was damn tasty and rich.
The KHIMCHI SALAD - was spicy yet it kept me nibbling on it.
The starters were served on the table.
There were about 5-6 starters served - a combination of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The non vegetarians always have an edge to relish both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes - but this time I did not find it quite worthy to have a taste of both.
The DRUMS OF HEAVEN was the best of the lot, an absolute cracker - crispy and spicy delicious pieces of chicken.
The CHICKEN SAU MAI - miniature version of what we know as chicken momos, delicious chicken filling wrapped in wonton skin. It was being served from the bamboo steamer. The chicken filling was well cooked and had a balanced taste.
On the other hand, the VEGETARIAN BASIL DUMPLING a  big no...although it said basil - I did not find any trace of basil, other than the fact that the color was green.
The SICHUAN CHILLI FISH - was another delectable dish. Tender fish pieces marinated, sautΓ©ed and cooked to perfection.
The ASSORTED CRISPY VEGETABLE KONJEENARO - the first batch that was served had crispy exteriors and tender interiors - perfect, until we were served another serving and alas....
With the starters itself, we had lost quite our heart - nonetheless we braced ourselves to attempt the main course dishes and the desserts.
The main course was a wide spread of SALADS, STEAMED RICE,STIR FRIED VEGETABLES IN GINGER CHILLI, VEGETABLE DUMPLING IN CHILLI SOYA,MIXED VEGETABLES IN DEVIL'S SAUCE, CORN AND VEGETABLE FRIEND RICE,SICHUAN STYLE VEGETABLE NOODLES. The non vegetarian's delight was the SHRIMP'S IN MUSTARD SAUCE, CRABS HUMAN STYLE,CHILLI BASIL FRIED RICE WITH CHICKEN,CHICKEN IN CHILLI BASIL SAUCE, CHICKEN HAKKA NOODLES.
I tried just a few dishes - and they tasted good, came close to impress.
My friend's were drenched in praise over the crab and shrimp dishes - highly praised dishes of the lot.

The desserts were very basic and minimal  - ICECREAM - VANILLA AND STRAWBERRY, COFFEE MOUSSE, BUTTERSCOTCH PASTRY, MANGO CHEESE CAKE AND DARSAAN. The combination of vanilla ice cream and darsaan was mouth wateringly good. Yumm...
The COFFEE MOUSSE had distinct coffee flavors - nice.
The pastry and cake were fresh and soft.

The dishes in the starters tasted good when they were hot - but once cold they did not appeal much.

I have tasted dishes from their a la` carte and my verdict would be that the a la` carte dishes have an edge over the buffet dishes.

The service is prompt, and they were constantly taking feedbacks about the dishes. I must mention, when some of our friends gave honest reviews about the dishes - they took the liberty to prepare a special dish for them out of their menu. Much appreciated effort and hospitality. Kudos!!
During a buffet, you don't always know what you are being served with - so it is always a good thing if the server educates the diner with the name of the dish, instead of just saying chicken/fish/veg while serving.

We also happen to have a beautifully decorated extra creamy layered complimentary cake for our celebration.
