Food anatomization : Kohinoor, Champaign

Kohinoor is the new baby in the block in Champaign - the newbee Indian restaurant located at Columbia Ave.

Although it lies just across the street, it can be little difficult to locate with its not to easy to read the black restaurant hoarding. It has replaced the Escobar - if that helps to locate.

Kohinoor - is a precious diamond but it will take some time for it to live up to its name in the food genre. The interiors are done beautifully - dimly lighted with few gorgeous wall paintings and decors put on the wall - specially loved the doors with black railings.
They have the lounge seating and the table seating spread across on the floor - can easily accommodate 50 or more people. They do have a separate section with bar which has been done stylishly and seating arrangements having about 10-12 tables there.

They have a variety in their menu with vegetarian, non vegetarian dishes and the biryanis.

On request you could also customize the dishes in your thali - which shows their customer care.
As a part of their grand opening - the restaurant was offering free entrees for their guests.
We were lucky to have chanced upon the ultra delicious SAMOSAS. They were just mind blowingly good - albeit oily. After a month long stay, I was literally craving for the Indian street food and could not have been happier to have the samosas, especially something tasting so similar to the ones we gorge on in India - ekdum the tadakta-bhadakta-crispy. I could never imagine a restaurant in the states being able to bring out such overly kick of flavors in SAMOSA. :)
The VEGETARIAN THALI was loaded with a combination of PANEER MAKHANI,YELLOW DAL,CHANA ALOO,RICE,NAAN, SALAD, DESSERT, MIX VEG CURRY, PAPAD. I just loved the cute mini pots with a single handle that they were served in. The plating was done beautifully, looked heavily colorful.
The paneer makhani was a let down - paneer in tangy tomato masala.
The chana was well attempted with its thick gravy.
The sides were done well.
In all a decent spread for a thali here in Champaign I would say.

The owners attend the guests heartily and personally - which was welcoming. Much appreciated:)
