Gluttony Diaries : A Mexican Delight , Dos Reales, Prospect Avenue - Champaign

Dos Reales - is one of the authentic Mexican cuisine serving restaurant in Champaign.


With a very old school ambiance - right at the entrance you can locate few things signifying the Mexican culture - especially the suit framed up at the entrance.

Ambiance is cheery with dim red lighting and colorful paintings. Albeit seemed as though their Christmas decorations were still on 😊 - they have two sections for seating varying from diner style to the regular table-chair setup.

The place was fairly crowded and our server was very attendant to our table.😃

For starters every table is served with a basket of nachos with a combination of spicy salsa - this was slightly offsetting. The salsa should have had a thicker consistency - seemed watery!

Ordered for the POLLO EMPANIZADO - an interesting combination of layered and grilled tender chicken breasts dipped in egg batter, hugged in bread crumbs and then deep fried.
The chicken breasts were hands down delicious - this was paired with rice and mashed beans. Mashed beans was something new that I saw being served in a Mexican restaurant. Served in the platter was a beautiful crispy basket encompassing guacamole, salad, sour cream, pico de gallo.  This was to be enjoyed with some warm tortillas.

I totally relished the dish - not to mention I got caught quite a many times, as what needs to go with what?! 😟
