Wanderlust Tales : Dubai Diaries - The Glittering Streets of Gold Souk

DAY 2

The Gold Souk is a must must visit place - even if you don't have anything to purchase - just go there to see the charm of Gold. Yes, you read it right!πŸ˜€

Souk in Arabic means a marketplace.

Walk through the old crowded lanes of Dubai to see authentic Gold and the innumerable shops exhibiting bangles, necklaces, rings, earrings, pendants, bracelets and what not.

It is basically like a fish market but all they sell is Gold and lots and lots of Gold. πŸ˜ƒ

HOW TO GET HERE:

You obviously have the option to hire a cab to take you directly to the Gold Souk.

We took the Metro Ride from our nearest Metro Station at the Ibn Butata Mall - the Ibn Butata Metro Station to the Al Ras Station. It is a ride of about 40 minutes.
You will have to change trains either at the Burjuman/Union Station to take the next ride to Al Ras.
The frequency of trains every 5 minutes. Each way costing about 10 -15 Dhirams.

From the Al Ras Station, it is about a 10 minutes walk or so, to reach the Souk.

DUBAI GOLD SOUK:

Indians around the world have a strange fascination for Gold, no doubt - and the Gold Souk is the most visited souk in Dubai by Indians and Arabs equally.

The Gold Souk is a traditional market located near to the Dubai Creek - it is the world's largest gold market selling a range of jewellery, gemstones in 18K and 22K.

The covered walkways are a relief if you are here to shop during the morning hours.

You would find more than 100 retailers here selling a wide variety of jewellery. In these cluttered streets, you will find all the well-known brands - Damas, JoyAlukas,  Gitanjali, Malabar Gold etc.

DON'T GIVE THIS A MISS FOR ANYTHING!

On entering the Souk - the first thing I noticed was this - do you see this - a full body suit in GOLD!
Can't even imagine someone in this bodysuit. πŸ˜•

The market prices of Gold are displayed in almost every shop - the general rules of Gold buying apply here too.
You can always bargain on the karigiri charges, but the price of Gold * weight won't be bargained for. Don't hesitate to bargain at all, it is extremely common - enjoy the experience.

A wide range of jewellery in different makes, the design is available here - the collection is copious.

Try to purchase from proper stores - you might be surprised that there are many shops selling fake jewellery. Although there are various government regulations in place - better late than sorry. πŸ‘

The stores accept all major credit cards.

Go during the evening hours and the street is glittering streets all throughout.

They say there is almost 10 tonnes of Gold in here - imagine - really a city of GOLD?! 😯

Mind you, the place is heavily crowded!
