Wanderlust Tales : Coimbatore Diaries

After a rejuvenating experience at Allepey, it was time to seek some mental solace. On our way back from Allepey, we made a stop over at Coimbatore.πŸ˜‡

Coimbatore is an industrial city which is majorly known for its textile industry - more of a trade area.  Off late it has garnered a lot of fame because of the newly inaugurated Adiyogi in the Isha Center.

DAY 1

THINGS TO DO IN COIMBATORE:

  • Adiyogi

We left Allepey by 11:30 hours and drove straight to the Isha Yogi center to see the Adiyogi. Once you near the city of Coimbatore - the route to reach the Isha Center is not really easily drive-able. The routes directed by Google Maps drag you through the interiors of the city and the busy crowded markets.

You can rely on Google Maps to quite some extent - but minute it starts directing you into small gali or nukkad, do make sure to get down and get the direction from the locals around. Mostly it is a straight road to the place - but Google Maps can't be trusted in entirety.

Adiyogi  has been declared as the largest bust by Guinness World Records - standing at 112 feet tall is this bust of 'Adiyogi' - Lord Shiva at the Isha Foundation.
It refers to the source of Yoga and symbolizes 112 methods of self transformation that the first Yogi offered.
It was inaugurated by our PM Narendra Modi on the 24th February 2017 on the occasion of Maha Shiv Ratri. Just wondered with the condition of the roads - how did the PM make it here? 😜

Surrounded by the Velliangiri Mountains in the range of the Western Ghats - it is a spectacle and yet slightly intimidating in the evening hours.😣
Surrounded by the darkness the black bust seemed so lively.

There is a linga - Yogeswar Linga in front the statue. Many can be found in Dhyaan state there - photography is prohibited there.

  • Enjoy food

As soon as reached Coimbatore, we headed straight to indulge in the South Indian delicacies.

The Annapurna Gowrishankar is the among the most famous Vegetarian restaurants here. It is heavily crowded - quite a normal setup. It has segregation of AC rooms and non AC ones.

The IDLI along with the four types of chutneys and sambhar was relishing. The idlis so soft...my my!!😍
The GHEE ROAST DOSA was the best choice for the evening - laden with ghee, crispy - a dosa so perfect - just could put my hands down. πŸ™

  • Shopping

Shop for some ethnic silk sarees in the city - the city is filled with exquisite silk show rooms. The variety in immense.
They make you try the saris like this. 😍
