Food Tasting Event : Gong, Balewadi High Street - Pune

I was extended this invite by Devanshi from Quote-Unquote to visit Gong for their newly introduced Limitless Lunch - one of a kind.

Balewadi High Street - as I hear is the new Koregaon Park of the town, and I must say I was fairly impressed. Being at a distance of over 21kms from Magarpatta City - it was a hell of a ride, and I am glad Gong did not disappoint the journey. Gong is part of the specialty group who hold names like Mainland China, Hoppipola, and Sigree under their banner. 😊
Gong is their take on the modern day Asian cuisine.

The restaurant has been named after an instrument -  a bronze disk with an upturned rim which gives a hollow, resonant note when struck with a stick or hammer with the padded head. When played skillfully, it has quite transformational and therapeutic qualities. Interesting!!

The interiors were plush and classy, it is surprising how simple elements can lead to creating such glaring interiors. The ceiling is covered with wooden mesh structures and the yellow lighting lamps placed at the right places give a feeling of the entire structure being in glass and create an enigma plus give a sophisticated look overall. First few minutes in the restaurant and you would just want to glance through the structure- dazzling!!
They have sofa seating plus the fancy wooden table chair setup. They have few tables set up by the bar too - the place can easily accommodate about 50 odd guests.

However, the thumping music can be minimised - it hampers the feel of fine dining.😊

The Limitless Lunch gives the diner a five-course meal consisting of the SOUP, DIMSUMS, APPETIZERS, MAINS, AND DESSERT OF THE DAY.

Loved the design of the cutlery on the table - feels like dining in the stone age. Something different.πŸ’—

Before jumping right to the food - first and foremost on the table was a beautifully plated AMUSE BOUCHE - flavors of green apple, mint in the sphere which was lying on a bed of a leaf and lime crumble served with a chilled tofu. Interestingly artistic and set us completely for what's in store for us!! 😁

Then to be served on the table was the CHICKEN SOUP - thin, spicy broth filled with the goodness of chicken chunks, broccoli, spinach, lettuce, carrots, mushroom and dried slices of ginger which was slightly chewy. Loved it!

The TOM YUM SOUP was on the similar lines with added tofu instead of the chicken chunks.

Next was the COTTAGE CHEESE RAVIOLI - based in a tomato and coconut-rich gravy were these soft delicate ravioli pieces stuffed with cottage cheese. I am not a coconut gravy fan - but this was one was mind-blowing. The asparagus stem with an olive added to it - brought about diversity in the color. The plating of the dish in a margarita glass was splendid. πŸ’˜

For some reason, they did not serve the DUMPLINGS on the table despite asking for it. πŸ˜’

Anywho!! Next were the appetizers, the CHICKEN KATSU BUNS - nothing extraordinary but still unique. Fried flour forming a bun base which was slathered with a spicy well-seasoned sauce to hold the fried chunks of chicken coated in breadcrumbs further being garnished with fried noodles, lettuce, and crumbles. To add, these were served with wonton crisps. A bite into the dish and it was relishing. Ahaa....πŸ˜‹

On the other hand the COTTAGE & SUN, DRIED TOMATO BUNS were totally offsetting - a peculiar smell from the sauce killed the dish.

The LEMON ICED TEA - indeed chilled and lemon-ey. Perfectly complimented the mains.

For the mains, I opted for the ASIAN GREENS NOODLES - which were stir-fried noodles with long strands of noodles cooked to perfection adorned with slices of carrots, spring onions, and bean sprouts.

The noodles went perfectly with the CHICKEN HOT POT - succulent chicken chunks cooked in Sichuan style in a red gravy with the addition of peanuts, tangy sauces, veggies and loads of seasonings. Flawless.

The GREEN CURRY VEGETABLE had loads of exotic vegetables like carrots, broccoli, spinach, baby corn, mushrooms, cauliflower cooked in a coconut gravy base - well attempted.

The VANILLA ICECREAM with FRIED NOODLES were a usual flare.

The service was good, but a little-laid back. The place is full - yet leaving your guests with no food for a longer duration is little disheartening, especially the servings are to be from a set menu.
