Food anatomization : Mandi, JP Naar - Bangalore

After much debate over having buffet lunch or not, we finally hit this place. :D

Mandi, situated right across the street - is on the second floor of the building beside KFC in JP Nagar.

The decor is good – but it added little to the feel of the place. They could have decorated quite well to be in sync with the name of the restaurant. They have worked more on the dΓ©cor at the entrance.

They have a wide seating area, and it can house almost 20 or more tables.

The buffet dishes were served on vendor carts - mostly to be in sync with its name "Mandi".

The lighting is comfortable, and this was the first restaurant in Bangalore where they were playing only Bollywood songs - absolute music to the ears.

They serve a wide spread of dishes ranging from North Indian, South Indian, Chinese and Italian. But it is a purely vegetarian restaurant and they don't have ala~carte for lunch.

This was my first venture into an all vegetarian restaurant serving only buffet.

We started with a welcome drink - which was more like a jaljeera drink - it was refreshingly cool.

The VEG CORN SOUP was okayish.

The starters were served on the table - they had around 4-5 starter dishes. They served us with - ALOO TIKKI,DAHI ALOO,GOBHI MASALA and PUDINA PANEER
The taste of all of the dishes were about average. Though I really liked the dahi aloo,it was something new that I had off late – amazingly soft and tasty!

They had live chat counters – although I didn’t have the chats nor pani puri – but I didn’t hear any good comments about it  – they were either soggy or too sweet. No chatpata taste as expected. Also, yeah I completely forgot – they also have live pasta counters – I really relished the PASTA
The chef had the sauce ready and he sautΓ©ed the sauces and pasta, on the hot plate and served it – right in front of us. :)

Coming to main course - they served a variety of dishes like the DAL MAKHANI,DUM ALOO CHATPATA,PANEER BUTTER MASALA,KOFTA CURRY,ALOO MATAR SABJI,HAKKA NOODLES,VEG CHILLY IN GRAVY,SUBZ BIRYANI,RASAM,STEAMED RICE,CURD RICE.

The dishes didn’t have any WOW factor in them – but yet they tasted about good – and you could see there was not immense influx of masalas in the dishes. They had kept it subtle and simple.

For breads – we ordered for the KULCHA– they were perfect!

There were few salads as well - but I just loved the CORN SALAD. The dressing was about perfect.

For desserts - they had a GULAB JAMUNS,RASUGULLAS,MOONG DAL HALWA,PEDA,KHEER,FRUITS and STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM.

The GULAB JAMUNS - disappointing.
Loved the PEDA(mostly it was not from their kitchen).
KHEER- so so.
The MOONG DAL HALWA - surprisingly well cooked dish. I would say rich in flavors and savory.
The STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM – don’t know which brand they were serving – I just nibbled and it was an utter disaster again. :(
They had the live jalebi counter - and the JALEBIS were a treat. Absolutely mouthwatering!!

My expectation from a buffet, is the least they must serve the best  of desserts – it must be among the most satiating dishes.

The food was in all – average! For the price – number of dishes was a fair number but the taste of the food should be improved.

The service is too slow. And they take a lot of time for anything that you ask for.

It does stand crowded on a weekend, people were stepping in and out and there was no stopping, which gave me a hint - that this place is a common with lot of people.
