Food anatomization : Hotel Kolhapuri Katta, Hadapsar - Pune
Hotel Kolhapuri Katta, one of the places which we have been hitting off late for savouring on some authentic Maharashtrian chicken preparations.😃
The hotel is not a fancy shancy one, a pure chalo hotel - closely fitting itself among the many shops in the Amar Samrudhdhi Building - an easy miss and lose place. Watch out!
Don't worry about parking space - there is ample.
Let me warn you, the crowd includes full on locals hitting the place for their dose of the non vegetarian preparations.
Since, the hotel occupies space of a shop - it accommodates about 6 tables or so in there.The place is kind of cramped up - too many people walking by can be chaotic. Post 9 the place is really crowded - you might have to wait up for your turn.
They have mounted a wall TV - not the LED ones but the TV sets from our bachpan times. A good reminiscence of old is gold and to stand by it, they are always playing some really old Indian classics. Good food and Indian classics - bliss!! 😊
The kitchen is a see through at the end of the room - the cooks are working tirelessly to serve their guests better.
Ordered for the SPECIAL CHICKEN THALI - which is a combination of ek dum theeki CHICKEN CURRY, SUKHI CHICKEN, TAMBA RASSA, EGG VATI,THECHA, SALADS,PANDHRA RASSA. Sans the spicy-ness, the thali is a delicacy in itself.
The chicken dishes are oozing in with flavors. Chicken pieces absolutely juicy,tender and cooked to perfection - neither too soft nor uncooked - just perfect. The thick gravy is just mind blowing-ly good. The rassas are tasty and a good accompaniment. The EGG VATI is done well - with so much un-puttable chicken preparation in the thali - egg was not something I was indulging much on. 😏
The CHICKEN THALI is everything above minus the SUKKHI CHICKEN dishes.
You would feel satiated post the meal - the street flavors imbibed in the dishes, make it utterly fulfilling.
I am a hard core chicken leg lover - but I guess they happen to chop down all the chicken pieces - which deprived me of the leg piece.😞 If only I could relish on a leg piece.....ahaa!!😎
The chicken dishes prepared are damn spicy - to avoid all the drama with watery eyes, I am always requesting them to reduce the spicy-ness and they always tailor make it for me. 😁 Whereas my friends would always be shouting at me for that, they love spicy food.
Another specialty of theirs is the KAJU CURRY - a vegetarian's delight.
I have never had such a dish in my life - vegetarian dish sans the paneer and veggies. Epic!! The dish is legendary - much recommended for all.
The VEG HANDI as the name suggests, an assortment of all veggies and paneer cubes - it was a good dish, but nothing beats the chicken preparations. Well attempted!!
The CHICKEN HANDI - chicken curry in spicy masalas,thick gravy and garnished with crushed coriander. It was flavorsome yet a tad bit low in the taste genre compared to the chicken served in the thali. 😋
Do skip the regular rotis and have the bhakris - really soft and delicious added benefit healthy too. Not a fan of the jeera rice served here - way too much fried jeera.
The service is really good - our table is really well taken care of. The uncle taking care of the orders there is really sweet. He is taking utmost care as to there is nothing more is needed on our table - such hospitality feels really warm.
