Food anatomization : Farzi Cafe, Kalyani Nagar - Pune

Looks like a good week. πŸ’š

A friend's farewell party got us here - Farzi has been the charcha of the town for its attempts of imbibing the concept of molecular gastronomy in its delicacies. They believe in the concept of the creating infusion and illusion with the food served on the table - which definitely leaves its guests astounded. It is definitely a culinary experience in itself.

A modern day, quirky bistro - located on the first floor of the Fortaleza Complex. It has an indoor seating plus a terrace bar. The indoor seating has the wooden table top chair setup to the seating by the bar and the comfy red colored sofa seating - the red stands out in the lighting. The place can widely accommodate about 50 odd people. The ambiance is pretty much just the artificial walls - merely like concrete walls with geometric circles cut on it. The apt placement of the lighting on the walls created a glassy illusion of the decor. Fancy!

On a Friday night - the place seemed comparatively less crowded, and there was no wait time too.

We were comfortably seated on the wooden tabletop and chair seating on a slightly elevated platform and which allowed us to enjoy the view of the interiors of the restaurant.

Grabbing our hands on the menu and deciding what to eat took us some time -loved the menu with its witty one-liners on them.
First to be served to us was the MISTI DOI SHOT, a welcome dish - looked elegant, four small plates on a pot with fumes coming from below - definitely photogenic!! It was ultra soft yet solidified misti doi with a garnishing of strawberry syrup. Not really sweet, yet Misti doi it was. A good theatrical start!

Soup, yes we tried soup - we ordered in for the BRAISED CARAMEL PRAWNS, DESI CORIANDER TOM YUM - the prawns were cooked to perfection desi style and were top notch - surprisingly I would have loved it sans the soupy broth served separately in a pot. There was a strong essence of soy flavor flowing in from the soup - a little thickness wouldn't have hurt.

Next in line was the DAL CHAWAL ARANCINI - never imagined I would have dal chawal in a restaurant. Albeit it was a nice twist, stuffed dal chawal balls filled with cheese and garnished with rolled papads on an achaar chutney.Interesting - yet it had wee-bit salt.

BHATTI DA MURGH were apparently chicken drumsticks served on a mini black barbecue. The dish was so-so, the thick cheesy onion raita served along was the taste enhancer, but could do less to save the dish. The chicken pieces were tender yet lacked the flavors.

In came the SORBET - nicely conceptualized, a gujarati khandvi on a stick - served right before the mains. The black mustard seeds in such a small portion were imparting a tad bit bitterness.

For mains, we chose to go for an Italian dish - the SPAGHETTI AGLIO OLIO e Cocco - creamy spaghetti with infusion of coconut and the curry leaves and tamatar ka tadka. A good change from the regular pasta.

Could I ever miss on the desserts - never, would I?!
We called in for the RASMLAI TRES LECHES - a beautifully crafted dessert. There in a bed of the thick, sweetened, rich flavorful rabri stood the gem.Hidden within the layers of ras malai was carefully stacked, the ultra delicious gajar ka halwa which was just mouth-watering-ly good and equally satiating. It was heavily garnished with nuts and rose petals. The sugar meshwork adorned on the dish was like a crown - and this my dear was its way to proclaim itself as the king of all the dishes served on our table!

Perfect end to our gastronomical food journey. πŸ’š

The servers were really jovial and helpful, coordinated well with the guests.
