Wanderlust Tales : Trimbakeswar Shiv Temple, Trimbakeswar - Nashik

DAY 2

After a good night's sleep from the tiring journey, we set to explore Nashik.

The first on our list was obviously the Trimbakeswar Shiv Temple - an ancient Hindu temple.

GLIMPSE INTO THE HISTORY:

The history goes that that temple was built by Balaji Baji Rao on the banks of River Godavari in the Brahmagiri region.

HOW TO GET HERE:

The temple is situated at a distance of 28 km from the Ginger Hotel, Satpur where we had halted for the day. Initially, we had booked an Ola cab - but it failed to make it to the hotel on time and not finding any good option either, we took to the nearby auto stand and booked an auto.
Later we found that Ola cabs offer an outstation facility - allows one to book the cab for a needed number of hours. I am not sure about the tariff but the Ola cab driver whom we had hired later in the evening, informed that for about 40 km, coverage for 4 hours would cost 1200 or so bucks.
Anyhow, our auto took Rs.500/- for the to and fro journey to the Trimbakeswar Shiv temple plus the wait time. It took us a total of 3 hours for the visit.

With the incessant use of cabs in our daily rote life, auto rides are now a faraway dream. It was an enjoyable, fun and breezy ride on the highway in an AUTO!! Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable experience to travel in an auto on the highways - albeit the auto was having a tough time coping up with the speed and slight slope of the roads. πŸ˜‰
Surrounded by craggy hilly mountains and equally lush greenery, it appeared rather peaceful.

On the way, we witnessed the Anjaneri hills - the place where Lord Hanuman was born and named after his mother Anjani - we did not detour to visit the hills as it would have been time-consuming.

As we tried to race ahead, it was interesting to see a temple and a mosque in close proximity to each other. 😊

DARSHAN:

Once we reached the temple, there was a market yard that you would need to cross to reach the temple. The area is filled with eateries and shops selling copper items, regular stuff, and other bhagwanji related stuff.

Things to do:
  1. Avoid carrying your mobile phones or you can deposit them in the deposit boxes for a minimal fee. Shoes can also be kept there.
  2. Photography is not allowed on the premises.
  3. Do not carry flowers or coconuts for offering, since right before entering the main temple, the flowers and coconuts are collected - the vendors will try very hard to sell them to you.
  4. Try going as early as possible to avoid the rush.
  5. They have special darshan tickets for Rs.200/-.
The place is well managed, there is not much frisking. There are male security guards present, but no female ones.

There is a magnificent entrance to the temple which has a spread out the yard and that one Peeple tree in between it all has the sanctity maintained. As you enter, you feel calm.
There are two temples - the first one has the Nandi the bull and then is the main temple with the Jyotirlinga. Trimbakeswar Shiv Temple is said to be the holy abode of one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country and is considered a highly sacred pilgrimage site, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It embodies the three powerful Gods' of Hindu mythology - Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu.

The darshan is slow, and despite less crowd - the guards and the pandits do not allow more than 20 seconds of darshan of the Jyotirlinga. People like us travel from a farther distance, just to witness this pilgrimage site, the least we must be respected and not pushed away from worshiping the deity which is our fundamental right.

Albeit there is a mirror placed above the LINGA in the temple, and it is there where you can see the LINGA after the direct darshan.

Post our darshan, we grabbed a quick juice at the local juice center and my father - the foodie he is grabbed few fried junkies - besan ke pakoda and palak ka pakodas. Surprisingly they were excellently made sans the oily-ness. 😊

And we made our way back to our hotel. On the way, we stopped to adorn and snap the various grape cultivation on the lands nearby - scenic!

  1. Jyotir Linga Shiva Temples are abundant throughout India's many thousands of cities and villages, yet only a small number of these temples are places of pilgrimage.
