Food tasting event : The Coconut Tree Bar & Kitchen , Magarpatta - Pune

The invite for a food tasting to The Coconut Tree Bar & Kitchen, Magarpatta was extended by Ms.Yashika Bajaj from id8 media solutions - and I am glad I made it here. The place is soon to be one of the happening places in Magarpatta - with the ever crowded Amanora and Seasons mall, this comes as a relief.

Located in the Konark Icon building, it is about 600 meters from the Seasons Mall. Though it could be a little daunting to locate the place, thanks to the watchman seated outside, the gentleman walked us to the door of the restaurant which is located on the first floor of the building.

We reached at about eight-ish, but the place hadn't kick started yet. We seated ourselves, and then we were greeted by Mr. Nikhil who was an ever wonderful cheerful host. He took us for a little tour of the place and simultaneously explained the concept of the place.

The Coconut Tree Bar & Kitchen is spread over two floors with a seating capacity of 80+ in totality. The ground floor is the fine dining area with about 8-10 tables placed artfully.I just loved the furniture placed in the restaurant - the wooden tables with the vibrantly colored and designed chairs. It totally brought about a vintage feel.
The seating on the first floor is the lounge/bar seating arrangement with a mix of high and low raised tables to the comfy American diner style cushioned sofas. They have seating by the bar too.

We were explained by Mr.Nikhil, how the decor is in sync with 'COCONUT' - each part of the decor befitting the word. From the brick walls adorning the wittiest one liner posters to the highly rustic metallic walls along the stairs placed with varied plants. There was a certain vibrancy in the decor with the use of bright colors like turquoise green, black, white and yellow. The triangular window panes through the first floor were embedded with plants in them, which added to the coastal feel. Also, they had skillfully used the creepers on the ceilings. To sum it, I was in absolute love with the trendy and chic decor - I must say it was tastefully done!!

The menu is varied to suit varying appetites - from the South Indian Coastal Delicacies to the North Indian - Mughal, Nawabi preparations on the spread.😊

Nikhil helped us with the choice of the dishes, we asked them to serve as per their delight.

We plunged in, and first to be served on the table were the drinks for the evening.

The BARTENDER'S SPECIAL was a refreshingly light drink with hints of coconut - and just with the right amount of sweetness.😊
Bartender's special
By this time came in the GHEE ROASTED CHICKEN, as suggested by Mr. Nikhil - served beautifully on a tawa over a banana leaf. The chicken was tender, cooked to perfection - the only problem was the bone which was the major hindrance. Boneless would have been more fitting for the dish.
Although I realized only later, that there was an absolute miss of the curry leaves in the dishes served - South Indian delicacies sans the curry leaves in the garnishing is strange, ain't it?!

Next was the KUNDAPURI SURMAI TAWA - as they did not have the Pomfret fish for the serving. Served on a tawa over the banana leaf and cooked in Kundapur masala - the fish piece was grilled beautifully. It blended swiftly in the mouth, however, the sides were a tad bit burnt and that taste lingered.

The NIZAAMI TANDOORI HANDI MURGH took a while to be made - we had been informed about it too hence...
Served in a clay handi, covered with a dough to retain the moisture of the dish, it looked scrumptious. Had pinned high hopes from the looks - I was the eager onlooker as the dough was being uncased - the handi had tandoor-ed pieces of chicken garnished with grated cheeeeese and loads of it. The chicken pieces although a tiny-miny bit dry were savory.
Yummy, well attempted! ✌

The dish of the evening, hands down was the BUTTER GARLIC PRAWNS - prawns tossed in rich luscious butter and garlic paste. Tempting! Albeit, I had serious issues with the plating - not sure about others, I did not like to see the prawns decorated on the plate in that manner.πŸ˜‹

Now it was time for another round of drinks - COCONUT TREE PUNCH, a creamy sweet drink with a punch of mango, pineapple, orange and coconut cream blended together - more like a milkshake.
By now we were filled to the brim - yet they insisted we try a small portion from the main course offering as they had already prepared the dish, and we obliged. 😁

SMOKED MURGH KOYLA - it tasted quite different I would say, we had a tough time in distinguishing the spices and condiments - there was a distinct smoky flavor yet it lacked a certain something.

It was teamed with the LACCHA PARATHA, which was a delight - I could eat the paratha all by itself - lachhedar and khasta as they say it in Hindi. The dough and the baking were perfect! My friend opted for the neer dosa - it was good too. 😌

PAYASAM OF THE DAY - PAYASAM for me has always been in rice. This was a typical combination with tapioca seeds. The payasam was served hot, it had evident flavors of jaggery and finely grained coconut, yet I would say the payasam needed to have a thicker consistency compared to the one served. It is the thick consistency - that adds to the nuance of the payasam.πŸ˜•

The staff is really courteous. A special mention of Mr.Himanshu attending our table - he took well care and a huge thank you to Mr.Nikhil for being the perfect jolly and welcoming host. His hospitality would definitely pull you here again. 😊
