Wanderlust Tales : Dubai Diaries - An Unforgettable Ride in the Dubai Creek

DAY 2

Exploring the old parts of Dubai was the agenda of the day especially the Souk's and the restaurants. It is fascinating to see how old parts of Dubai have been kept vigorous.

MARHABBA DUBAI

HOW TO GET HERE:

Hiring a cab would be the easiest mode of transport to the Dubai Creek. There are no direct buses/trains to the Abra Creek.

Although you you can change couple of trains till the Al Jafiya Station - from where you must hire a cab.

DUBAI CREEK:

Experience crossing the Dubai Creek on the Abra - a traditional means to cross the creek. For many, it is an experience and for many, it is the only mode of transport. 😊

Dubai Creek is the heart of Dubai. 😍

Nothing unusual yet on one side you see the glamorous Dubai embedded in hi-technologies, skyscrapers and on the other you get to acknowledge how parts of Old Dubai have been kept alive - modern Dubai and the old Dubai. Keeping that little bit of heritage - commendable. πŸ™‡

Exploring the older parts of the city can be done best in the Abra - only a 10 minutes ride, yet quite satisfying - pacing through one part of the city to the other.

While driving around the parts of the Old Dubai when Dada told us about the Dubai Creek - I couldn't resist the urge to get onto the Abra. We took the Abra ride(Abra in Arabic means boat) in Old Dubai. 😎 Don't miss this experience.

An Abra has a capacity of about 20 people and the Abra driver stands in the middle of the boat, driving.

Once you are at the creek, the constant mid voiced street like cries of the Abra drivers, for filling up the Abra to its capacity, to ferry it to the other side - is a sight to behold. Bharat ki yaad aa gayi - not that you are going to miss India, with loads of Indians flocking here - but just for the heck of it - India wali feeling!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜†

Although it was nearing the closing time - the abra driver who an old gentleman gave us a ride to and fro.

For 1 Dhiram - I think this would be your cheapest ride in Dubai.

You can ride from the Dubai Old Souk Abra Station to the Bur Dubai Abra Station. Mind you, no tickets are issued, money is to be paid directly to the Abra driver.πŸ‘Œ

The night ride is the most scenic - seeing the night lights of Dubai gleaming from the Abra. πŸ’–

TIMINGS:

These rides ply from 5 am in the morning to midnight.
