Food tasting event : Krimsons, Wanowrie - Pune

There is something about East Indian Cuisine especially Bengali khana which I must admit, gets me totally gaga!

Being in Pune, despite a large number of Bengalis in town – haven’t found a good Bengali restaurant.

When I got a mail from Aditya from Orca studio, to try out this place Krimsons which specializes in East Indian food i.e Rolls, Kebabs, and combos – it was a quick yes.

They have recently shifted their base next to Kedari petrol pump – it was quite a goof up with the addresses provided and where it was actually located. With the help of the folks from the restaurant – tired, yet we made our way here. Imagine, walking even ½ a km in this heat is horrendous.

So Krimsons is like a regular fast food restaurant – located on the busy lane – do watch out for the place.
They have an indoor and an outdoor seating. The indoor seating is a mezzanine seating but is kind of compact. It had about 3-4 glass top tables and chairs placed in there.
Despite the AC running, it was pretty hot in there, could be due to its proximity to the kitchen. We quickly moved to the outdoor space, where they have about 3 glass table tops and wooden chairs placed neatly on one side.
They have a part see through the kitchen. Interestingly there was Gughni and tadka counter placed in the space.
They had a huge wall covering poster to bring out the vibes of Kolkata. The poster had a picture of the cop in white uniform, fish tokri, the Victoria Memorial, the yellow taxi, a lady with the dhak, the tram - the very subtle things that briefly define Kolkata.

We were comfortably seated under the shades of the trees, and glancing at the moon through was a charm.

We were greeted by Mr.Jaywant, and I must say the hospitality was at its best. Their servers all courteous, with a constant smile on their face – kept no stone unturned to make you happy. J

So we started with the DOUBLE CHICKEN TIKKA ROLL – actually quite filling I would say. It had tender and juicy cooked chunks of chicken in it which were spiced with mustard and mayonnaise sauces. It was garnished with slices of carrot, onions, and capsicum atop. The paratha base was really lachedar and soft. Maybe it could have been made more hot and spicy. The roll was filled with a gracious amount of chicken chunks.

Next came in few dishes from the Kolkata Bite – which was truly a reminiscence of street food alike.
The DIM ER DEVIL won my heart – a slice of boiled egg stuffed with delicious beetroot filling and deep fried in a batter which gave it crispy exteriors. It was served with veggie salad and mustard sauce. Yummy-licious and the flavors were amazing. I just wolfed it down completely - something new for me!

The CHICKEN CHOP was keema-ed chicken cooked in wondrous flavors. The stuffing was rolled and deep fried in a batter which gave it crispy exteriors - delectable. Albeit, my friends found it to be a tad bit salty - note my salt intake capacity is more! It was also served with a veggie salad with mustard sauce.
The FISH FRY and FISH FINGER were ultra soft fish meat wrapped again in a batter and deep fried which gave it crispy exteriors - served with a veggie salad with mustard sauce.
They were perfect munchers and snacking options.
As Bengalis like, the use of mustard sauce was prominent in their dishes.
Surprisingly, although deep fried – that excessive oil part was not persistent. It definitely eased up gorging on them. πŸ˜‰
The CHICKEN KOSHA with STEAMED RICE was just flawless, leaving no place for any complaints. The chicken was cooked aptly and it blended beautifully in the mouth. The gravy was highly masaledar, imparting hints of the garam masalas in every bite –  top notch. Team it with rice and it was heavenly with a kick of flavors. Yes, but you need to ignore the oil part, a tad bit. 😐
The rice was cooked perfectly - with each of the long grains of Basmati rice separate from the other. I believe it was dressed with a dollop of butter. 😈

The CHICKEN CHOOZA TANDOOR was tandoor-ed with the correct mix of spices, but it had way too much food color, I would say.

The ALOO POSTO with roti was well attempted. It was good, but the immense mustard seeds bothered me, it also gave a slight pungent taste or maybe the mustard seeds hadn’t been tempered well in oil.
The LEMON ICE TEA was nice - well made.
With their servings, it appeared they mostly specialize in takeaways from their restaurants. They were serving the dishes in takeaway containers itself.J

Well, it would have taken a rating of 4 – but the compact mezzanine seating and the servings in takeaway containers were a little offsetting. Although I wouldn’t deny, it did ensure utmost hygiene.
But maybe they could use these disposable containers for services in a different style or colors maybe.
