Food anatomization : KhanSaab, Seasons Mall - Pune

KhaanSaab is a fine dining place in the Seasons mall, which specialises in serving North Indian cuisine.
It claims to be a tribute to the rich cuisine served in the Durbars of the emperor of the North West frontier which was highly influenced by the Mughal cuisine.

The ambiance is absolutely grandeur - there is no doubt about it. Right from the time you enter the restaurant everything you would notice is absolutely brilliant - the heavy ornate chandeliers placed at the entrance to the mammoth wooden sculpture of an elephant to the heavily carved wooden silky white cushioned sofa, the mirrors - every bit of it looked elegant. I must say it does succeed, in creating an impact.

Enter to notice a gorgeous glass chandelier hung in the center of the room. The place can accommodate about 100 or more guests.
The sofa seating is spread out to place in larger and smaller groups of people. The walls are draped with maroon curtains which were kind of offsetting. Nah!
At one corner - they have a private room with 2 long tables separated by a wooden carved wall.
Through the restaurant, you would find various wall hangings of warriors and the duo sword pieces. Royalty!
The end of the room sported a bar area and by side they flaunted of a see through kitchen.
Lavishly designed interiors!

Hearing the word royal etches an image of having your dining experience in the heavy silver cutlery, goblet glasses and the cutlery here perfectly justifies it.

Friday night, tired we quickly placed the orders for the starters.
For beginners, the menu is pretty limited.
The NASHEELA JHINGA, prawns nicely marinated in Indian spices, was a well attempted dish. Albeit, for some strange reason the jhinga were really tough to cut through - I agree it had been tandoo-red in clay pots, but that doesn't explain the rough texture.
DAHI KE GALOUTI - a typical taste from the dahi, pinched us. Kebab made from curd and grilled, were super soft - but couldn't win on the taste genre.
CORN CHEESE KURKURE - we ordered in with high hopes, alas the crunchy rolls were filled with corn stuffing sans the cheese. Not even a slightest hint of cheeeeese. Why?! Why?!
PANEER KHURCHAN - excessive use of mustard seeds bothered me, but I wouldn't deny the paneer was luscious and the gravy made in rada masala was savoury.
SUBZ MELA - loads of fresh vegetables and baby corn adorned with garnishings of grated cheese, lacked the flavours and I would call it slightly bland.
MURGH KHANDAAR - shredded succulent tender tikka-ed chicken chunks, cooked in hot Indian spiced, had stunning flavours. One dish of the lot, which did not fail us in any way.
We asked for the CHINGARI MURGH PATIALA and sadly there were out of it.
ROMALI ROTI - as I started with the roomali roti, in due time it turned damn rubbery - and after a while I gave up - couldn't carry on! I was told the GARLIC NAAN was good.
JEERA PULAO - flawless.
DOUBLE DAAL DOUBLE TADKA - usually I am not into dal fry in restaurants, but many of my friends prefer this, to end their meal. Initially I had just taken a spoon of rice and dal serving for tasting. but after my first bite I couldn't resist - and asked the servers to fill up a vati of dal for me too. I was bowled over the dal, thick and made to perfection, especially the tadka. Wow!!

Loved the gulkand, given as mouth fresheners!

It is pricy, for the food being served.

The service is good.
