Wanderlust Tales : Baneshwar temple, Nasrapur - Pune

Baneshwar Temple is a Shiva Temple, located in the village of Nasrapur.

BANESHWAR DIARIES:

It is about 40 kms from Pune. In our friend's car, we drove via the Saswad-Kothrud road to reach here.
Of course, Google Maps were our aid - but I would suggest that the maps must be stored for offline use as well - since at some places there is an absolute lack of signal. Note - the route we endeavored on, had no toll booths.

BANESWAR TEMPLE:

Once you near, you would notice the big placard saying "Baneshwar Wan Udhyan" - drive straight through it. And you would definitely feel the difference the "wan" makes. Nature and birds an exquisite combination of beauty.

Since we were here in the early hours of the morning, the place hadn't started the business yet. There was no crowd at all, except the pandits and their kids plunging into the water tanks in the premises of the temple.

There is ample parking space for 4 wheeler and 2 wheeler vehicles.

The place justifies its name - completely adorned in the shadow of the numerous trees in the area. There is a big banyan tree, standing tall at the center of it all, spreading its long branches.
There was set up for a couple of shops for selling puja items and few eateries items too, but all the shops were closed. Alas! πŸ˜”

History has it, the temple was constructed by Peshwa Nanasaheb during the medieval times.

The temple is painted in blue and the dome of the temple is adorned in colors of gold with an ethnic combination of blue and gold!
The temple has two tanks where you can see few turtles and fishes crawling and enjoying the water - which are the major attraction. 😊
The temple has Shivling, Hanuman temple, Ganapati Temple, Nandi the bull and the Laxmi temple in its periphery.

Photography beyond a point is not permitted, especially at the Shiv Linga.

As you enter the temple, you would need to step down to a small room which houses the Shiv Linga. There is a mirror atop for people to see the Shiv Linga - without having to step down. Divine!

There is a huge bell hanging at the entrance, which has some history to it - it is said it was captured by Chimaji Appa after defeating Portuguese in the battle of Bassien.

A temple amidst a plethora of trees - seems like an exploration in itself. Ban ke mandhya main mandir! πŸ’–

Best time to visit the place would be rainy and winters.
