Culinary experiments : Odia Style Banana Malpua Recipe

BANANA MALPUA

What do you do when you have overripe bananas?! Use mommy's formula to the rescue - mommy's tricks never fail.😘
A quick recipe to satiate your sweet tooth - BANANA MALPUA!!

This Banana Malpua is a quick and healthy alternative to the Odia Malpua which has loads of khoya and is drenched in sugar syrup which is of course another Indian delicacy in itself.

This requires no deep frying!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 Ripe bananas
  • 3 tablespoon of Sugar - needs to be adjusted accordingly
  • 2 cups of Milk as per the consistency needed -  needs to be adjusted accordingly
  • 1 cup of Wheat flour - needs to be adjusted accordingly
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder
  • Dry fruits - almonds, walnuts, raisins , cashew nuts
  • Chenna (Optional)

RECIPE WITH STEP BY STEP PICTURES :

  • Take a bowl and mash the bananas.
  • Once mashed well, next add the wheat flour, milk and sugar - mix them to ensure, there are no lumps formed while beating the batter. Your batter must maintain a consistency of neither too thick nor too running. The sweetness must be as per your desire.

  • Over the top you can add the cardamom powder, chopped dry fruits. I always love the raisins - my mom makes the batter a little less sweet and lets the raisins in the malpua fill the sweetness gap.
If you want, you could use a little baking powder - but I would advice to avoid it.
  • Heat the non stick pan and grease it with oil.
  • Once the pan is hot enough, pour the batter and spread the batter around.
  • Add oil on all sides - this will allow the sides to cook.

  • Now cover the pan - you need to check on it, every 5 minutes and once done - you can flip the sides. This will allow both the sides to be cooked consistently. Mind you - it could be a time taking affair - but nothing worth having comes easy on time!! πŸ˜ƒπŸ’–

  • And finally it is ready!!

~Bon Appetite !!
